Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – PMP® Certification Training

PMP® (Project Management Professional) is a globally recognized certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It validates a professional’s ability to manage projects efficiently using standardized project management methodologies across various industries.

A degree provides theoretical knowledge, but PMP® training focuses on real-world project management applications, best practices, and PMI’s methodologies. The PMP® certification is highly valued by employers and significantly enhances your career prospects by proving your expertise in managing projects effectively.

To apply for the PMP® exam, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • With a four-year degree (bachelor's or equivalent):
    • 36 months of project management experience
    • 35 hours of project management training or CAPM® certification
  • With a high school diploma or associate degree:
    • 60 months of project management experience
    • 35 hours of project management training or CAPM® certification

The required 35 contact hours of project management training can be obtained from PMI-authorized training providers, PMP certified trainers accredited with organisations like ZAS MS (zasms.co.uk), which offers live, online, and  PMP® courses as per the instructions and guidelines by Project Management Institute (PMI).

On average, candidates spend 2 to 3 months preparing for the PMP® exam, dedicating around 10–15 hours per week. However, preparation time varies based on prior experience and familiarity with project management concepts.

Yes, the PMP® exam is considered challenging due to its situational and scenario-based questions. It requires a deep understanding of project management concepts and practical application. A structured study plan, practice tests, and professional training can significantly increase your chances of passing.

The PMP® exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions, covering:

  • 50% Agile/Hybrid methodology
  • 50% Predictive (Waterfall) approach
  • Three domains:
    • People (42%)
    • Process (50%)
    • Business Environment (8%)
You have 230 minutes to complete the exam, with two 10-minute breaks.

PMI does not disclose an official passing score, as it is based on a psychometric evaluation. However, most experts recommend aiming for 70% or higher (85 out of 125 scored questions) to improve your chances of passing.

The PMP® exam fee is:

  • PMI Members: $405
  • Non-Members: $575
A PMI membership costs $139 annually, offering discounts and access to additional resources.

To apply for the PMP® exam:

  1. Create an account on PMI.org.
  2. Complete the online application form with details of your education and project management experience. It is important that experience is aligned with the PMI code of conduct and Body of Knowledge.
  3. Submit the application and wait for PMI’s approval (usually within 5 business days).
  4. Schedule your exam through Pearson VUE (online or at a test center).

Yes, ZAS MS, PMI and Pearson VUE adhere to strict data protection and privacy policies. Your personal information is securely stored and is not shared with third parties.

The PMP® certification is valid for three years. To maintain it, you must earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) within this period. You can earn PDUs through:

  • Attending training and webinars
  • Completing PMI-approved courses
  • Engaging in project work and volunteering

If you do not sit for the PMP® exam, your 35 PDUs remain valid for three years. You can use them for other PMI certifications like CAPM® or PMI-ACP® or towards renewing an existing PMI credential. However, PDUs alone do not grant certification.
